There are many walks around this beautiful, scenic area of the Western Lake District. Some are a short drive away but some have their starting point locally.
One such route is a circular walk that encompasses all three villages and is 3.54 miles in total. Starting in Frizington Community Primary School and heading North on the A5086 towards Arlecdon. Continue on this A road passing Arlecdon Park on your right. At the end of the park, and just as you enter Rowrah, take a right turn towards Winder Beck. The footpath will take you alongside the beck, eventually crossing and following Yeathouse Road and on towards St Joseph’s Church. Once passed the two churches and school you will join up again with the A5086, turning right along this road and eventually meeting with your starting point.
For those wanting more of a challenge, the little village of Frizington is also very handily placed to start the C2C Cycle route or Coast to Coast Walk. The Stork Hotel at the edge of the village even ferries walkers to and from the route!
The C2C cycle ride is a challenging 137 mile ride over 3 days, from Whitehaven to Tynmouth! Along the way you will take in the spectacular Lake District, Eden Valley, Pennines and Northumbria – altogether some of the most beautiful parts of Great Britain. If you would like to do this as a group there are some fantastic organised events that will include all your needs, right down to helmet and cycle hire!
The Coast to Coast Walk is a 192 mile unofficial and mostly unsignposted long distance footpath walk in the North of England. Devised by Alfred Wainright, it passes through three contrasting national parks, including our own stunning Lake District. Starting at nearby St Bees and going across country to Robin Hood’s Bay, near Scarborough and taking around 16 days! Again there are many organised and professional guided walks where all your needs will be met.
More locally are the scenic walks around the Lake Districts most Westerly Lake, Ennerdale Water. A walk around the water is the most satisfying lakeside walk in the Lake District. The remoteness and tranquility being unrivalled. There is also a choice of walks, the full circuit, around 6.5 miles or that of a track and forestry road which sticks close to the shoreline for the entire way. An easy to follow walk and clear to follow.
