Santon Bridge Gift Shop and Woodlands Tea Room

Santon Bridge Gift Shop and The Woodlands CafeIf you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise. It’s a fairytale setting and no make believe…

The Woodlands Tea Room nestles in a delightful setting in the Woodlands of Santon Bridge, Nr Wasdale. The surprise is two-fold – not only are you able to sample some of the tastiest home-made snacks, meals, and cakes available anywhere in the District, but you can also then go next door for a leisurely browse around one of the most innovative crafts and gift shops in the west of the country.

The Craft shop has been on site since 1954 and in those days hot drinks were sold from a flask. Since then things have evolved – the craft shop has turned into a veritable institution and the tea room was built about 5 years ago. Quality leather goods and sheepskin are synonymous with the Santon Bridge Craft and Gift Shop. In addition to the quality leather are charming gifts including Pilgrim Jewellery, Beatrix Potter, Border Fine Arts, Children’s toys, Outdoor clothing, ceramics, glassware, and much much more …..

The bright yet relaxing atmosphere of the Tearoom serving ‘good, wholesome, locally sourced, food’ and the quaint ‘log cabin’ feel of the Gift Shop makes for a perfect day out.

It’s easy to get to from either the A595 from where it is signposted or the scenic route through Gosforth towards Eskdale.

Our History

Over the years the Craft shop and Tea Room have evolved and are now 2 large ‘cabins’ which have turned into a veritable institution – a real Aladin’s cave of gifts complemented by the Woodlands Tea Rooms which were added in 2001.
We are surrounded by woodland and are ideally located as a meeting place for walkers, just a few yards away from the river Irt, a good salmon and sea trout river, which flows out of Wastwater (England’s deepest lake).

Fifteen minutes drive away is Wasdale Head and of course, Scafell Pike (England’s highest mountain), Great Gable, Pillar, Red Pike, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell, Harterfell, and Hardknott are all close by.

Other attractions in the area include Muncaster Castle and the La’al Ratty Railway.
